I would say forget it, find another boat. From what you describe, the cost of having it repaired professionally would have to be more than the boat is worth. If you plan on doing the work yourself, you are in for a huge project, one that will really eat into your sailing time. Mast compression indicates that you would need to get a new mast support beam from Schock, which isn't cheap. And if the hull is in such poor shape, I would bet that the keel is a disaster. It's also quite likely that you would need new standing rigging as well. For the sake of comparisn, out here in California decent S-22's are selling for anywhere from $1500 - $3000, with even better boats available for a bit more.
