:: two plates to the boom is well and truly jammed. Trying
:: to undo it so far has just resulted in gouges in my
:: wrench. I tried some liquid wrench today too but that

:: other ways to attach the main sheet to the boom?

Take the end cap off the boom and then you can get a wrench on both the nut and the bolt. Just did this a couple of weeks ago. If you need another end cap let me know, I have a good used one.
