It's not difficult to change the bearing. You can order replacements through a bearing dealer or a distributor such as Jamestown Distributors. You'll need several measurements "Outer Diameter" of Shaft the the diameter of the ruddershaft tube and length of tube between rudder flange and stuffing box. You should be able to get a rubber for cheaper than the original bronze. They are called sleeve bearings and are listed under rudder or propeller shaft sections. :: Hi All,
::
:: I have a question to the fleet regarding rudder
:: bearings. I recently dropped the rudder out on my S22
:: #454, as there is a large amount of play in the rudder.
:: I found that my boat has a bronze rudder bearing and
:: they are quite worn. I have two questions:
::
:: 1. Does anyone have any experience or good ideas on
:: removing these bearings?
:: 2. Are replacement bearings available anywhere?
::
:: Thanks in advance for your help.

:: Erik
