Hi Tom,

Thanks for the heads up on the new factory back stay set up. Unfortunately I live in Hood River, Oregon, so it is a bit difficult to check all your boats out. That's why I posted my request on the message board. I know you guys have it figured out (with a couple different versions), I just do not have access to "modern" S22 deck layouts. If you happen to snap some photos I would greatly appreciate it if you could share them with me.

Thanks,

:: Erik

:: There is a new factory set up on a red hulled Santana 22
:: called Ahi here at Svendsens (Alameda Marina). If you
:: can't get by for a look see let me know and I'll try to
:: remember to take a few pics for you.

:: :: James,

:: :: Thanks for the email with the photos, I really
:: :: appreciate it. That looks very clean. It would be
:: :: helpful if anyone else has additional install photos of
:: :: how they ran their back stays. I am sure there are a few
:: :: versions. I hear there are a few boats in the Bay with
:: :: this set up.

:: :: :: This is pretty much how I have mine run. There's a 12:1
:: :: :: purchase under the cockpit floor, and then up through
:: :: :: the barney post. It makes adjusting the backstay quick
:: :: :: and easy, although to be honest, I don't understand sail
:: :: :: trim well enough yet to be playing it much while sitting
:: :: :: on the high side.
:: :: ::
:: :: :: I'll send you some pics of my setup by email.

:: :: :: :: I am going to modify my mainsheet to use a cockpit sole
:: :: :: :: mounted blarney post. I was thinking it would be
:: :: :: :: convenient to route the backstay adjustment under the
:: :: :: :: sole and up through or just aft of the blarney post and
:: :: :: :: use the blarney post to mount a swivel cleat. Has anyone
:: :: :: :: used a method similar to what I have described? If so,
:: :: :: :: would you share some details of your install and a photo
:: :: :: :: or two? I looked at the Harken Duo Cam swivel cleat
:: :: :: :: H216, but it seems like the cleating angle for the
:: :: :: :: backstay might be to low when you are stilling on the
:: :: :: :: edge of the cockpit combing? Any comments, advice
:: :: :: :: warnings?
