Bob,

If you are thinking about actually replacing the mast beam, Schock is the place to go. The number I have for them is (951)277-3377. The cost is about $500 and I would expect to wait at least a couple of weeks--they make they to order. Removing the old beam and installing one of the new ones is a long and difficult job, performed mainly while laying on ones back. The factory beams can almost be considered a "blank"--they require a lot of shaping to get them to fit. That being said, they are a big improvement over the old ones because you need neither a compression post or the old aluminum posts that your boat probably has now. Good luck,

Steve

:: Hello:

:: Read some of the articles on this website. They are very
:: informative. Also, read through the Tuna mail archives:
:: http://myfleet.org/pipermail/tuna/
::
:: Basically, your resource for both of these items is
:: Steve Seal @ Seals Spars:

:: http://www.sealsspars.com/s22catalog.html
::
:: He is down here in the bay area but I'm sure he would be
:: happy to ship. Nice guy, very knowledgeable.
::
:: It looks like you;re looking at $100 for the mast jack
:: and $195 for the stainless keel bolts. Both upgrades are
:: worthwhile.
::
:: For the mast jack, you'll need to back off all your
:: rigging so there is no tension, then install the jack.
:: Pretty easy and straightforward job.
::
:: As for replacing the keel bolts, it is going to require
:: having the boat out of the water (if it isn't already),
:: and possibly removing/replacing fairing and/or
:: fiberglass. I glassed mine in for strength so I could
:: fair the keel joint into the hull, but if you aren't
:: racing I doubt this would be worth your time. It isn't a
:: very difficult job, just time consuming.
::
:: Anyway good luck and welcome to the fleet!

::
:: :: Any ideas or articles I can get about replacing the keel
:: :: bolts on the Santana 22? I just bought one, I live in
:: :: Washington. I read with alarm that the boat is older
:: :: then the keel bolt's design life.
:: ::
:: :: Also, I notice the Class allows the deck beam supporting
:: :: mast compression loads to be replaced with a "factory
:: :: supplied deck beam." I emailed Schock, but they have not
:: :: responded, yet. Any information on this? Does Schock
:: :: sell them? How do I know if I need one? How hard are
:: :: they to replace?
:: ::
:: :: I appreciate any information or leads to articles or
:: :: other sources of information.
:: ::
:: :: Thanks,
:: ::
