Thanks for the info. I'll be looking at a 1968 model as well as a hull in the 700s this weekend. The keel bolts are the first thing I'll be checking on the older boat

You are correct about some models using galvanized bolts. I even saw one this week which had been upgraded to stainless bolts, but the nuts were still a more corrosion-prone material (oops!).

:: I believe that the earlier hulls are considered lighter
:: by many racers, while later numbers, such as my #581,
:: are thought to be heavier and more solid. It is worth
:: noting that Mark Lowry and Soliton did extremely well
:: with one of the later models (somewhere in the 580's, I
:: think). Keep in mind that some of the earlier hulls had
:: aluminum chainplates and, I've heard, galvanized keel
:: bolts. Neither is acceptable.

:: Contact Jan Gryger about mast beam replacement; he's
:: done it.

:: :: Hi,

:: :: thanks!
