Subject: adjusting the backstay when hoisting

I just picked up my S22, Sunny Day, with a hoist a Brick Yard Cove. One problem I had is that the backstay intefered with the Hoist Boom.

If my mast was 10 ft taller it would not be a problem . The hoist boom would just operate under the backstay, But with the mast height of a S22, picking up the boat out of the water requires the hoist boom to be higher than the backstay, but dropping it on to the trailer requires the hoist boom to be under the backstay.

Should the backstay be released during the hoist ? Is that safe?

I sort of shimmied the backstay around the hoist boom by rocking the boat. But I find that approach a little too exciting.
