I think Pete is correct - while one could probably pull the rudder out with the help of someone that was willing to dive under the boat - you may need to replace bearings and re-align the rudder to the keel. I've heard that many of the older boats were not set up well in regards to the rudder placement and this caused all sorts of problems. If you do decide to pull it at the dock just make sure you are tied on well - you don't want to have it sink on you.
