Subject: Trailer Specs

I just picked up a used (read: old and rusted) single-axle trailer from Clearlake that I thought had a suitable frame and supports to hold a Santana 22. The existing axle was rated for only 2250 lbs, no brakes so I bought separately a used 3700 lbs axle with surge brakes and tongue actuator. So now I'm girding myself for quite a project, consisting of a lot of rust removal, sanding, priming and painting along with some custom welding work.

To that end, I need some information on trailer specs - specifically bunk height and positioning in relation to keel support as well as the relative positioning of the bow support. I would appreciate if someone could provide some information about their trailer or let me come and make some measurements. Of course I have the pictures from the WD Schock website but I'd rather see a working one up close.

I posted some pictures of the trailer as is right now under Photos - Old Trailer, and I'd appreciate some suggestions. It's only 19 1/2 feet from tongue to rear which I thought might be too short; I sent Tom Schock a picture of it as well. He didn't think that was a problem as much as the rust. By the way, they sell a trailer for $4,995 with disc brakes, adjustable torsion bar suspension, and mast carrier. That'd be fine if I wanted to go to Tahoe and back; I just plan to use to go from marina to dry storage maybe twice a year.

Thanks all, John
