Subject: Dropping the rudder
Info: (5710 views) Posted: Tuesday 12-9-08 11:43:21 AM
I have SunnyDay on her trailer and I am trying to drop the rudder to fix the play in the rudder . I have removed SS thru bolt that goes thru the tiller base and thru rudder post and is then out the other side of the tillerbase. I have also removed the little bolt that is at 90 degrees of the thru bolt that just goes into the tiller base and presses against rudder post.

It seems to me that the rudder post ought to just fall out now, but it doesn't. I have sprayed these openings with wd40 and twisted and pulled on the rudder and tiller to try and separate them, but they still appear to be fastened together. I also do not want to break the rudder trying to fix it so i am limiting the force applied.

Any Ideas? Is there packing that could still be holding the rudder post in place? Is there another bolt somewhere? or am I just dealing with corrosion between the tiller base and rudder post?
